I finally got my hands on a copy of this wonderful book, and I'm so excited to start cooking from it. I want to try and make all of the recipes (kind of like a Julie and Julia thing), but I'm not giving myself a set time that I need to complete the goal, or it may not happen. I'm just trying to be realistic with myself. :)

The first recipe in this book is for Leek and Potato soup. It was so delicious! I loved how the kitchen smelled while the leeks were simmering. Mmm. I'll definitely be making this one again!

I'm so excited to share this little piece of our bedroom!

I've had this idea to print out vintage black and white pictures of my grandparents for a long time (inspired by this lovely lady). A million things found priority, but I finally got them all done! I love these pictures so much. Do you know how hard it was to narrow it down to 6?

I also bought a simple white blanket from Target to use as our bedspread. Our last one was beautiful but had a pretty busy pattern. So this time I went to simple and white which I really think opens up our space and makes it feel clean.

2014 Anniversary Pictures

This December will be our 4th anniversary. INSANE. I seriously can't believe it.

So these pictures are reaaally late for our 3rd anniversary. But because our anniversary is in December, I don't want snowy pictures all the time!

I got in contact with a new favorite photographer of mine, and she made the magic happen. If you're in Utah, I HIGHLY recommend this awesome gal! Jostlyn is such a pleasure to work with and has a real gift. And she shoots some of her work in film, which I think is so rad.

Pioneer Day

So hey, it was Pioneer Day yesterday! I worked all day, like a true pioneer. :) But I also thought it would be a good idea to learn about the people who came before me.

I have some awesome pioneer stories in my family, but I mostly was thinking about my grandparents yesterday. My grandma recently passed away, so we had some of her journal entries typed up that I hadn't yet read.

It was so interesting to read her perspective on life. Her husband died when she was in her 40's, so her life was not easy. I hadn't understood how truly sad that was for her and her family. It really got me thinking about my life and how easy my trials seem in comparison. Her perspective was also so spiritual and faithful. It reminded me that family and the gospel are two of the most important things.

I'm getting some of these awesome pictures printed to hang on my wall, so I thought I'd share!

Soda Pop

Tonight I was out shopping with my sisters and we found an awesome soda shop. They had a huge variety of cool looking soda bottles (If you're in Salt Lake, check out Rocket Fizz at the Gateway). So, we picked out a few of our favorites and I took some pictures right after the sun went down (hence the graininess because of high ISO).

Aren't they so fun?

The Huckleberry was voted the favorite, with the Orange Cream as a close second.

The Day Our Dreams Were Crushed But We Had Fun Anyway

That was a pretty bold title, let me explain: we had heard about the beautiful Alpine poppies really close to our house, and went on a little hike to find them.

And as it turns out, they were dead when we got there. I guess they only last a few weeks so we just barely missed them! Next year we'll get them!

But we still had a fun time going on a nice Sunday walk. And it didn't hurt that the scenery was stunning.

Tulip Festival 2014

Yeah, I know it's been foreverz since I've posted and since this festival even happened. But it's a tradition that we go to the Tulip Festival each year! So I had to share.

This time around we took our friends Wade and Kira for their first time. So fun!

Every time I mention this festival in conversation with people at work and other places, they always mention how expensive it is. And yeah, it's like $15 a ticket. But the gardens are so pretty! I love going and dreaming about having a garden in my future home one day. And it's amazingly fun to take pictures of. So basically, I don't care about you silly people who think it's expensive and are going to be grouchy about it. I love it.
