April Florals

Look at me! 2 blog posts in one week! I'm on fire! Ha. We'll see how well I can keep it up.

I'm so excited to be joining Brooke and a bunch of other lovely ladies for another How We Wore It post!

Here's the original outfit, via Little Miss Fearless :
And my take:

I'd like to call this one: "I'm Still Not A Fashion Blogger" or "What On Earth Am I Supposed To Do With My Hands?"

Flower crown headband: American Eagle

Top: Forever 21 via my little sister
Sweater: Madewell
Pants: Gap
Shoes: American Eagle

Floral crowns are one of those trendy things that I still love even if they're starting to go out of style. I'm loving floral everything lately! Another trendy thing I still love: striped paper straws. They're adorable! How could you not?!

Also, I'm pretty proud to say that I figured out how to do self-timer photography with a tripod today! I had to kind of figure it out in the half hour before I left for work because no one could take my picture. It was fun! But as you probably can tell, I have a lot to learn.

I really wish I could have incorporated some of that gorgeous green from the original picture! So pretty. But sadly I didn't have any of it in my closet. :(

Check out the rest of the fabulous ladies involved in How We Wore It this week!

Zion and Bryce National Parks!

Hello, old blog! It's certainly been a while. Life has been nothing short of crazy. But I think I want to get back into all of this fun blogging business.

So let's talk about a fun trip we recently took! We don't do this often (full time jobs are the worst), and it was a short weekend trip. But it was so fun. Especially because we went with our good friends Kira and Wade!

And in typical Kaycie fashion, there are a bajillion pictures.

Bryce Canyon was gorgeous. And just seeing it from the lookout isn't enough. Going into the canyons and hiking in the hoodoos was incredible.

When we drove over to Zion National Park... WOW. I'd been there before, but in the winter. Coming in the spring when everything is blooming and green and perfect made us wish we'd skipped Bryce altogether! But I'm still glad we went to both.

We hiked the trail to Angel's Landing and almost did the last .5 mile of craziness. But it was insanely windy that day and there were so, so many people. So it was way scarier than it already is. We really want to come back and do it though! Hopefully on a day when it's not windy and we can leave first thing in the morning to beat the crowds.

National Parks are kind of our favorite thing now. We have 2 more to go in Utah, and then I'd love to start traveling out of state for more!

How I Wore It

Holy cow it's been a while since I've blogged! I'm back for an awesome post, though. My amazing friend, Brooke invited me to participate in a fashion collaboration! I was so ecstatic when I got that email!

I'm certainly no fashion blogger, but I do enjoy a good outfit.

AND, I'm excited to show you my new haircut! It was time for a change, and I love it!

So, first, here is our inspiration outfit, via Suburban Faux-Pas:

And my version:

In true procrastinator form, I didn't take these pictures until this morning! I know. I'm crazy. And my poor husband.

Canon AE-1, Portra 160

This last week I got my first ever roll of film developed! Okay, that's if we decide not to count the first which didn't turn out because I loaded it in backwards. *embarrassed emoji*

I'm in love with how the pictures turned out! They're by no means perfect. And I still need to get the hang of several things, like manual focusing. But I'm in love.

Film is so pretty! I love the blur, the depth, and the grain that comes with film. I also love not knowing immediately how the image turned out. The waiting is half the fun.

Go Forth With Hope and Courage Strong

IMG_7298edit IMG_7303edit IMG_7293edit

Sometimes it's hard to be a photographer. Like, when you have a specific way you want your photos to turn out, and you give your husband the camera. These "outfit pictures" aren't exactly what I had in mind, but I still like them.

Life can be the same way. You have one way that you want it go, and then your plans go out the window because God has a different idea. And sometimes it's hard to see, in that dark moment, that it's the better way. I hope I can have enough faith to see the good in the new path I'm taking.

The BEST Gourmet Caramel Apple Recipe

Have you ever had a delicious caramel apple? I think I had a few store bought ones in my life. And yeah, they were good. But I truly believe I haven't had a better caramel apple that the ones that come from this recipe. It is soft, flavorful, and oh so rich. They are DIVINE.

These aren't your nasty, grocery store caramel apple kits. These are homemade and delicious, but still not a crazy amount of work.

The recipe can be found HERE at Our Best Bites. They have some wonderful tips and tricks to help you through the process, too. Here are my top tips:

-While popsicle sticks will work, my absolute favorite sticks come from Orson Gygi. They're thick, so they won't snap when you press them hard into the apple. And they're really pointy on one end so they're easy to get in.

-Be sure to chill the apples. It helps the caramel start to firm up when you dip them.

-Once the caramel reaches the 236 degrees, let it cool for at least 15 minutes. That way, the caramel won't slide right off the apples.

-The recipe made enough caramel for me to dip about 22-25 average sized apples. And I used Gala because they're my favorite. I don't like the tart green apples. But if that's your thang, then do it!

These are perfect for visiting teaching or neighbor treats (which is totally what I did because look how many the recipe makes!).
